D ealing with Invalid HTML Characters

Help Desk | Font Display | Javascript | Macrons | Useful Links | Kea Tutorials | Maintenance Calculator | Kea Rich Text Editor FAQ | Dealing with Invalid HTML Characters

Invalid HTML Characters are those funny squiggles and shapes that we sometimes find in text when it has been pasted  into Kea from another program such as Microsoft Word.

They appear when the text contains certain characters, which the browser is unable to interprate correctly.

Typically they are produced by fancy  inverted commas, apostrophes, long em dash and accents.

Here is a macro which  you can download and paste into your Microsoft Word Macro Editor. This macro will change the offending characters into ones which are websafe. You can add to the macro if you come across other offenders in text you use.

  1. Download this file characters-macro.txt
  2. Open it in Notepad
  3. Copy the text
  4. Open Microsoft Word
  5. Click on Tools>Macro>Visual Basic Editor
  6. Paste the copied text directly into the new macros module in the  Editor
  7. Save it and close the Editor

To Use the Macro

  1. Go to the Macros list and you will see the heading characters in  your list
  2. Click run to use the macro.
